News from the floor!

Hello from all the staff at Oasis Cardiff! We are excited to share with you something of what has been happening over the past year. Back in September we celebrated our 3rd anniversary since opening as a drop-in centre for Refugees and Asylum seekers in 2008. During that time we have had the privilege of meeting many individuals who come to Britain to seek sanctuary.   We currently have on average over fifty people who come to the new venue at the TAVS Centre every day. They represent a number of different countries including Sudan, Eritrea, Zimbabwe, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya amongst many others.
We seek to welcome and befriend these individuals who often come to Britain traumatized from events in their own country. There are a number of different workshops that take place during the week that service users can participate in. These include English classes, CV workshops, Job Club, I.T. skills, Sewing, Photoshop, Drama and other creative groups and lessons.

Many of the asylum seekers who attend are not permitted to work until they get their refugee status. The centre provides an opportunity for them to integrate, make new friends and keep busy whilst they wait for news on whether or not their individual case for asylum has been accepted.
We want to say a big thank you to all our volunteers and supporters, whose help enables us to draw alongside those who find themselves in a foreign and alien culture, often without family and little in the way of personal possessions.
